Role Summary:
This position oversees the defense and/or prosecution of assigned corporate litigation and legal claims, including commercial, product liability, personal injury, and employment disputes, ensuring optimal outcomes while collaborating with internal business clients and external legal counsel as necessary.This attorney will also provide counsel to in-house business clients regarding legal risk evaluation and mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage external counsel in defending and prosecuting the Company's varied litigation portfolio, formulating case strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes for the Company.
- Supervise and engage with external counsel throughout all phases of pre-litigation and litigation.

- Conduct thorough investigations related to factual inquiries, and gather, review, and analyze both electronic and paper documents pertinent to legal claims, subpoenas, and litigation to establish and defend fact-based positions for the Company.

- Collaborate with Regulatory and R&D teams to assist external counsel in crafting scientifically-grounded defense strategies.

- Draft and refine legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, affidavits, correspondence, and position statements to ensure robust advocacy for the Company in legal matters.

- Ensure the implementation of Legal Holds for anticipated or ongoing litigation, investigations, and claims, while advising personnel on Records Management Policy and document preservation requirements.

- Assist the Associate General Counsel (Litigation) in guiding external counsel through all litigation phases in state and federal courts, mediations, and arbitrations involving the Company, as well as in responding to governmental inquiries and administrative charges.

- Promote cost-effective case management through early assessments, focused discovery, and strategic settlements.

- Develop case budgets and prepare necessary information for forecasting legal fees related to assigned cases.

- Support external counsel with litigation due diligence for corporate transactions, such as acquisitions and divestitures.

- Advise internal business clients on best practices for legal risk avoidance across various issues, including product liability, commercial contracts, and employment matters.

- Provide guidance to Consumer Relations regarding consumer product complaints as needed.

- Coordinate with the Insurance Department, external insurance providers, and the Company's Auditors concerning litigation and legal claims, offering legal risk assessments and assisting in report preparation.

- Collaborate as a member of the Litigation Team, working together to achieve team objectives.

Qualifications:
- BA/BS and JD degrees from accredited institutions.
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in litigation and litigation management, with a blend of law firm and in-house corporate litigation experience preferred.
- Litigation experience should encompass product liability, personal injury, employment, and commercial contract disputes.

- Admitted to at least one state bar (and qualified for NJ limited bar license if plenary license is in another state).

Skills and Competencies:
- Comprehensive knowledge of civil procedure, legal research, discovery (including electronic discovery), investigations, pleadings, alternative dispute resolution, and trial and appellate practice.

- Exceptional analytical and advocacy skills, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities.

- Effective counseling skills, with experience advising clients throughout all stages of civil litigation, including strategies for pre-litigation dispute resolution and risk mitigation, discovery, motion practice, mediation, arbitration, and trials.

- Familiarity with insurance issues related to litigation and experience interacting with insurance carriers.

- Ability to balance necessary defense efforts with legal cost considerations and business needs.

- Client-focused with strong interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, engaging effectively with litigation group members, law department personnel, management, and external counsel.

- Strong work ethic, professionalism, and discretion, demonstrating accountability, integrity, good judgment, and respect for confidentiality.

- Self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and resourceful.

- Capacity to prioritize and manage a substantial workload, multiple case demands, and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.

- Proficient technical skills, including the ability to learn new software and applications related to e-billing, e-discovery, and matter management, as well as MS Office Suite.
