About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Specialist to join our team on a 12-month contract position with potential for extension or conversion.

Job Summary: The successful candidate will work under the direction of engineering staff and physical scientists to modify, test, and repair machinery and equipment. This role involves helping engineers design, test, and manufacture industrial machinery, consumer products, and other equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare parts sketches and write work orders and purchase requests for outside contractors.
  • Draft detail drawings or sketches for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet, or wood shops.
  • Review project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, and objectives, and test the nature of technical problems such as redesign.
  • Review project instructions and specifications to identify, modify, and plan requirements for fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture, and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with staff and coordinate corrections.
  • Inspect lines and figures for clarity and return erroneous drawings to designers for correction.
  • Evaluate tool drawing designs by measuring drawing dimensions and comparing with original specifications for form and function using engineering skills.

Requirements:

  • An associate's degree in engineering technology or a related field is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a similar role is necessary.
  • Previous experience with computer applications and design software related to the engineering field is essential.
  • BASIC knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology is required.
  • Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical, and problem-solving ability are essential.
  • A team player with attention to detail is required.
  • The ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and common computations is necessary.
  • The ability to perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications is essential.
