Job Summary:

The Virginia Department of Health is seeking a Nutritionist Associate to join our team. As a Nutritionist Associate, you will play a critical role in determining nutrition eligibility of applicants/clients within program guidelines and prescribing appropriate food packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess nutritional status/eligibility for program services by dietary recall/food frequency history, assessing growth patterns, weight patterns, biochemical values and medical history.
  • Independently set dietary goals based on the assessment and provide patient counseling specific to the individual's nutritional needs.
  • Make referrals for high-risk counseling with Nutritionist when appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Possess basic knowledge of nutrition and nutritional standards.
  • Must complete required training to obtain the Certification as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to interview clients & collect client information, interpret, document, calculate & compile routine data, routinely obtain blood sample/finger stick, provide patient education.

Working Conditions:

This is a wage position, and the successful applicant will be required to work at the Western Tidewater WIC program services the City of Franklin, the City of Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County as well as Pughsville.
