Job Title: Nutritionist Associate #WTX12

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is seeking a Nutritionist Associate to join the Western Tidewater Women's Children and Infants (WIC) program. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for determining nutrition eligibility of applicants/clients within program guidelines and prescribing appropriate food packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess nutritional status/eligibility for program services by dietary recall/food frequency history, assessing growth patterns, weight patterns, biochemical values, and medical history.
  • Independently set dietary goals based on the assessment and provide patient counseling specific to the individual's nutritional needs.
  • Make referrals for high-risk counseling with a Nutritionist when appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Possess basic knowledge of nutrition and nutritional standards.
  • Must complete required training to obtain the Certification as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to interview clients, collect client information, interpret, document, calculate, and compile routine data, routinely obtain blood samples/finger sticks, and provide patient education.

Additional Considerations:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in nutrition or a related field.
  • Training or course work in Dietetics, food services, or a related area.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a RESTRICTED position, which is solely funded by the Federal WIC Grant for a year period ending September 30th.
  • The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter.
