About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Principal IP Counsel to join our team at Medtronic. As a key member of our IP legal team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing our global patent portfolio strategy, managing IP risk, and providing strategic advice to our business leaders.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a global patent portfolio strategy to protect Medtronic's pipeline and manage IP risk
  • Oversee the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and patent maintenance decisions
  • Manage IP docket, leveraging corporate systems and resources
  • Provide support on patent litigation, pre-suit assessments, and patent office proceedings
  • Protect Medtronic's highest value R&D investments by managing invention disclosures and prioritizing filings
  • Analyze and develop actionable IP portfolios directed at competitors
  • Consult on, draft, and negotiate agreements and contract clauses to support business operations
  • Conduct benchmarking activities for IP portfolio valuation and budget allocations
Requirements
  • J.D. from a nationally accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • 8+ years of experience as an attorney in intellectual property law
  • Licensed to practice in at least one state or the District of Columbia
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
