Covenant Medical Group is a prominent medical practice organization under Covenant Health, featuring over 300 distinguished Physicians and healthcare providers across 20 cities in East Tennessee.

Our specialties encompass a wide range of medical fields including cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, infectious disease, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedic surgery, primary care, pulmonology, reproductive medicine, rheumatology, sleep medicine, and urology.


Position Summary:


The Clinical Support Specialist delivers professional healthcare services to patients undergoing treatments and evaluations in an outpatient clinical environment, under the guidance of the supervising physician and practice office manager.


Responsibilities:
1. Evaluates patients' overall health status and records vital signs and weight.

2. Assists the physician during examinations, diagnostic tests, and treatment procedures, including but not limited to phlebotomy, injections, suturing, and other standard office practices.

3. Administers medications to patients as directed by the physician, ensuring correct dosage, route, and documentation.

4. Trains and orients new staff members as necessary.

5. Provides essential patient care as prescribed.

6. Ensures timely communication of test results to patients.

7. Maintains patient comfort and privacy by adhering to the AIDET communication principles.

8. Accurately documents all clinical interventions, patient responses, and medications in the medical records.

9. Promotes health and wellness by distributing educational materials and conveying the physician's recommendations.

10. Reviews patient inquiries and consults with the physician regarding the urgency of appointments.

11. Manages inventory of medical supplies and ensures equipment is well-maintained.

12. Monitors the accuracy of patient medical records and maintains necessary reports and statistics.

13. Upholds confidentiality regarding practice, patients, and staff.


14. Proficiently operates various office and medical equipment, including telephones, computers, fax machines, stethoscopes, EKG machines, and basic laboratory tools.

15. Ensures a clean and sanitary workspace.

16. Keeps medical equipment in proper working order.

17. Handles referrals and pre-certifications as required.

18. Schedules patient appointments as directed by the physician and communicates details accurately to patients.

19. Receives calls from healthcare facilities and relays pertinent information to the physician promptly.


20. Collaborates with patients, physicians, and other team members to deliver comprehensive patient care.

21. Adheres to established policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Completes mandatory educational assignments annually and participates in quality improvement initiatives as needed.

22. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:


No specific educational requirements; however, must meet the standards for the necessary certification as mandated by the relevant authority.


Minimum Experience:
At least one (1) year of experience as a certified Medical Assistant from a recognized certifying body. Phlebotomy experience is highly preferred.

Licensure Requirement:
Certification as a Medical Assistant from a recognized certifying organization is required. American Heart Association BLS certification is mandatory.
