Position: Registered Nurse - MICU/SICU (Nights)

Facility: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center

Role Overview:
Full-time position, 3 shifts per week; 645pm-715am

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE REGISTERED NURSE (RN) - MICU/SICU:
  • Education: Graduate from an NLN or ACEN-accredited nursing program.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of continuous employment as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a hospital or clinical environment, including at least one (1) year as an ICU RN.
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA or ARC are mandatory for ICU roles.
  • Licensure: Active and unrestricted RN license valid in any of the 50 states or US territories.
  • Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen to access government systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE REGISTERED NURSE (RN) - MICU/SICU:
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, including cardiac or respiratory arrest, severe trauma, and psychiatric emergencies, as a member of the resuscitation team.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients to identify potential life-threatening conditions and differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Utilize medical equipment such as defibrillators, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors.
  • Provide care for patients with advanced medical devices, including Swan-Ganz catheters and mechanical ventilators.
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse healthcare team and educate patients and families on care plans and self-management.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in compliance with established protocols.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to adverse signs and symptoms, reporting critical lab results to the attending physician.
  • Execute medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety policies during patient care.
  • Coordinate patient care to achieve optimal outcomes in quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Utilize the nursing process for patient assessment and preparation for treatments, including post-procedural care.
  • Maintain knowledge of pharmacological agents, their effects, and proper administration techniques.
