Job Title: LPN - Green Cove Springs FL

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at Clay County. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, observing and documenting patient behavior, and responding to medical emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe and document patient behavior, including any unusual changes or concerns.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate care and treatment.
  • Take vital signs, administer medications, and inventory SHARPS as needed.
  • Manage chronic medical problems and complete required reports and documents.
  • Assist with clinic, psychiatrist, mental health, HIV clinic, labs, and x-rays as required.
  • Document and forward infectious disease results to the appropriate agency or department.
  • Log and reconcile usage of all SHARPS in accordance with OSHA regulations and agency policies.
  • Prepare and administer inmate medications, maintaining the security of the medical cart.
  • Measure inmates' vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse, without causing undue pain or physical damage.
  • Respond to declared medical emergencies and provide the correct required medical attention.
  • Supervise, control, and log access to medical facility pharmacy keys in accordance with FMJS.
  • Document inmate medical history and perform physical appraisals within 14 days of the inmate being booked into the detention facility.
  • Utilize narrative detailed medical records to accurately document all patient contacts in a timely manner.
  • Review and countersign diagnostic test results and studies, and forward them to the appropriate practitioner for review and countersignature.
  • Provide emotional and physical comfort to patients while ensuring the safety of inmates and preserving the security and integrity of the facility.
  • Assist inmates with activities of daily living, with special attention to therapeutic significance and the overall well-being of the patient.
  • Implement physician's orders as directed, consistent with agency policies and procedures and medical facility practices.
  • Provide information, advice, and effective counseling/treatment to inmates with chronic medical problems.
  • Utilize appropriate infection control techniques and operate all emergency equipment properly and in accordance with medical facility policies and procedures.
  • Obtain informed consents prior to initiating psychotropic medications or performing invasive procedures.
  • Collect appropriate quantities and types of specimens to monitor inmates for psychotropic medication toxicity.
  • Respond to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback of superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics.
  • Follow all leave and attendance-related policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a polite, helpful, courteous, and professional image when engaged with the public.
  • Check assigned mailboxes, telephone/electronic messages, and respond to messages in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Operate and care for equipment to manufacturers' specifications and/or within specified parameters and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, IV certification.
  • Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License (Florida).
  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period.
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible.
