Senior Coatings Specialist

Position Summary

The Senior Coatings Specialist operates under general oversight and provides leadership for a team of painters and finishers. This role involves organizing and coordinating workflow, preparing material lists, and managing supply orders while also executing tasks as a proficient painter.

Core Responsibilities

• Acts as a lead painter and coater, applying both basic and advanced coating techniques.
• Prepares diverse surfaces for painting and finishing, including standard wall finishes, stucco, concrete, and plaster.
• Utilizes various application methods such as brushing, rolling, spraying, and electro-static spraying for undercoats and finish coats.
• Mixes and matches paints and finishes to achieve desired results.
• Conducts pressure washing and paint spraying as required.
• Constructs scaffolding and operates electronic lifts or ladders to perform duties safely.
• Interprets and works from plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate execution of tasks.
• Ensures that all work complies with plans, specifications, and relevant building codes and safety regulations.
• Maintains tools, materials, and equipment in good condition and cleans work areas regularly.
• Adheres to established safety protocols while performing all duties.
• Maintains a tidy and secure work environment.
• May encounter hazardous materials such as paint thinners, lead, and asbestos, and performs abatement when certified.
• Collaborates with other tradespeople to ensure project success.
• Operates various power tools and shop equipment, including tint machines, shakers, and concrete grinders.
• Reviews work orders to prioritize and plan preventative and deferred maintenance tasks effectively.
• Ensures timely completion of high-priority work orders.
• Prepares and plans work, including developing material and supply lists and coordinating with the warehouse for timely orders.
• Creates rough sketches and cost estimates for communication with clients and the business office.
• Develops labor schedules and assigns tasks to team members, adjusting as necessary to meet project needs.
• Directs and coordinates workflow for assigned projects, ensuring collaboration with other departments.
• Inspects completed work for quality assurance and compliance with specifications.
• Instructs team members on industry best practices and safety regulations through regular meetings.
• Provides guidance and leadership to general painters.
• Reviews completed work for adherence to specifications and applicable codes.
• Maintains accurate records of work efforts in computerized systems.
• Communicates professionally with clients to keep them informed of project progress.
• Offers constructive feedback on team performance, focusing on productivity and quality.
• Ensures the Paint Shop remains organized and that tools and equipment are properly maintained.
• Prepares standard reports, including as-built documentation for database updates.
• Acts as shop supervisor in the absence of senior leadership.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and manage labor resources effectively.
• Possesses knowledge of safety practices and emergency preparedness to respond appropriately to incidents.
• Ensures compliance with drawings, plans, and specifications throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ability to inspect work performed by others for quality assurance.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of the shop and equipment.
• Utilizes technology effectively, including email and spreadsheets.
• Demonstrates proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and performing necessary calculations.
• Prepares comprehensive reports that organize information clearly.
• Stays informed of relevant state and federal policies related to job duties.
• Exhibits a commitment to high ethical standards and effective problem-solving in customer service.
• Communicates effectively with a diverse group of individuals involved in projects.

Required Qualifications

• Experience equivalent to journey-level skills acquired through a combination of training and experience.
• One to two years of experience in a role with work coordination responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques.

Compensation

Classification: Senior Coatings Specialist
Anticipated Hiring Range: $20 per hour
