Job Summary

Evaluate and treat patients to help restore or maintain their ability to perform daily living activities. Develop a treatment plan with interventions focused on daily living skills, work readiness, play/leisure activities, or enhancing educational performance skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and plans of care
  • Develop treatment plans with goals aligned with identified impairments for each participant to maximize potential
  • Begin discharge planning on evaluation and involve the patient, family, and/or caregiver in establishing goals for rehabilitation and discharge planning
  • Review patient status at regular intervals and change the treatment program as necessary
  • Participate in and provide in-service education to facilities, supportive staff, students, and the community
  • Attend departmental and IDT meetings
  • Establish a cooperative working relationship between the IDT, rehab team, and members of the medical community
  • Supervise and train support personnel
  • Ensure documentation aligns with best practice standards and is accurate and timely
  • Identify potential problem situations, intervene appropriately, and communicate such events to the supervisor
  • Perform related non-clinical services necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the department and adjust the schedule as required
Requirements
  • Master's degree preferred
  • One year experience in occupational therapy and experience working with the geriatric population preferred
  • Florida licensed occupational therapist
  • Current BLS certification
Abilities Required
  • Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body mechanics and body substance precautions to protect self, patients, and personnel working with the therapist
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Good problem-solving and clinical judgment skills
  • Demonstrate ability to take initiative, be adaptable, and work well independently
  • Be well organized, flexible, dependable, and punctual
  • Ability to work well with staff, individuals, and participants of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office, Excel)
Work Environment

Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation

Proximity to moving mechanical parts, and housekeeping/cleaning agents

Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues

Physical Requirements

Demonstrate the ability to perform the following tasks without posing a threat to the health and safety of those involved (employee, co-workers, caregivers, patient):

  • Lift, turn, move, position, and transport patients in and out of bed, chair, bathtub, wheelchair, lift, etc.
  • Sedentary tasks related to the job 20%
  • Physical tasks approximately 80%
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform a minimal assist transfer
  • Exert up to 100# of force occasionally, 50# frequently, and 20# constantly
