Job Title: Occupational Therapist PRN

Miami Jewish Health is a leading provider of healthcare and living options for aging adults in the Southeast. Our skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility is located on a beautiful 20+ acre campus just north of mid-town Miami.

Job Summary:

Evaluate and treat patients to help restore or maintain their ability to perform daily living activities. Develop a treatment plan with interventions directed toward developing daily living skills, work readiness, play/leisure activities, or enhancing educational performance skills. Teach patients skills/techniques and how to use adaptive equipment for participating in daily living activities. Consider sensory-motor integration, perceptual awareness, neuromuscular function, motivation, and cognitive or psychosocial components of performance. Provide supervision to support staff.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Complete a comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation and plan of care
  • Develop a comprehensive treatment plan with goals that align with identified impairments for each participant to maximize potential
  • Begin discharge planning on evaluation and involve the patient, family, and/or caregiver in establishing goals for rehabilitation and discharge planning, as evidenced in the documentation
  • Review patient's status at regular intervals and change the treatment program as necessary
  • Participate in and provide in-service education to facilities, supportive staff, students, and the community
  • Attend both departmental and IDT (interdisciplinary team) meetings
  • Establish a cooperative working relationship between the IDT, rehab team, and members of the medical community
  • Supervise and train support personnel
  • Documentation aligns with best practice standards and is accurate and timely
  • Identify potential problem situations, intervene appropriately, and communicate such events to supervisor
  • Perform related non-clinical services necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the department, and adjust schedule as required
  • Demonstrate willingness to work across clinical service lines, including inpatient, outpatient, and PACE as needed
Job Requirements:
  • Education: Master's degree preferred
  • Experience: One year experience in occupational therapy and experience working with the geriatric population preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications: Florida licensed occupational therapist, Current BLS certification
  • Abilities Required: Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body mechanics and body substance precautions to protect self, patients, and personnel working with therapist, Effective written and oral communication skills, Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, Good problem-solving and clinical judgment skills, Demonstrate ability to take initiative, be adaptable, and work well independently, Be well organized, flexible, dependable, and punctual, Ability to work well with staff, individuals, and participants of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office, Excel)
Functional Demands:
  • Environment Work Conditions: Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation, Proximity to moving mechanical parts, and housekeeping/cleaning agents
  • Infectious Material Exposure: Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues
  • Physical Requirements: Demonstrates the ability to perform the following tasks without posing a threat to the health and safety of those involved (employee, co-workers, caregivers, patient): lift, turn, move, position, and transport patients in and out of bed, chair, bathtub, wheelchair, lift, etc.
