Job Title: Urban Planner

Fisher Associates PE, LS, LA, DPC is seeking a skilled Urban Planner to join our Planning Group. As a key member of our team, you will assist with a wide range of projects, including comprehensive plans, mobility studies, brownfield redevelopment, urban design, land use and zoning, entitlement, grant assistance, economic development, and public engagement.

Job Summary

The primary function of this role is to perform basic research, analytical, and statistical tasks. You will prepare maps and graphics, analyze and assess land use recommendations and community design, understand and present urban building and development concepts, and assist in writing a variety of planning documents, publications, forms, reports, and grant applications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with State Environmental Quality reviews (SEQRA), preparation of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and related documentation, and National Environmental Policy Act reviews (NEPA).
  • Assist clients with municipal entitlement processes (site plan review, variances, planned unit developments, historic preservation approvals, etc.).
  • Attend, support, and take minutes for public, stakeholder, and advisory meetings.
  • Perform field visits, measurements, and assessments.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, co-workers, and project teams.
  • Stay informed of new developments and techniques in planning and urbanism practice areas.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Urban, Community or Regional Planning or a related field (including landscape architecture, transportation planning, architecture, etc.) from an accredited university; 1-2 semesters of demonstrated planning experience through major studio work and/or internship(s).
  • 0-5 years relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with a variety of computer software including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Sketchup preferred.
