About the Role

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team in the Non-Invasive Cardiology Clinic. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for performing echocardiography procedures and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate patient throughput and enhance patient satisfaction with testing process.
  • Review and verify physician orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify patients using multiple methods and explain procedures to be performed.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and maintain a secure environment.
  • Notify transport personnel in a timely manner, and transport patients as needed.
  • Review patient charts, including medical history and clinical diagnosis, to inform echocardiography procedures.
  • Recognize significant clinical information and historical facts that may impact echocardiography results.
  • Position patients to optimize test results and utilize appropriate transducers/equipment.
  • Monitor patients for signs of complications or intolerances and notify nurses/physicians promptly.
  • Record accurate measurements and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Enter correct patient information and demonstrate proficiency in performing ultrasound procedures.
  • Learn new modalities as they become available and provide high-quality images within resource limitations.
  • Delineate normal and abnormal anatomic structures, physiology, and hemodynamics.
  • Recognize examination findings requiring immediate clinical response and notify interpreting physicians.
  • Archive and retrieve studies, and provide proper care and use of digital echo systems.
  • Troubleshoot minor issues and contact HIS coordinators for system problems.
  • Log procedures for charging purposes and ensure timely reporting to the Cardiology Office.
  • Assume accountability for actions in the workplace and report errors promptly.
  • Act as a patient advocate and respond to complaints in an effective manner.
  • Utilize the chain of command to resolve patient, operational, or personal work-related problems.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and support new team members.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities as directed.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and mandatory educational sessions.
Requirements
  • Current ARDMS registry in Adult Echocardiography or successful completion of an ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program with verified didactic and supervised clinical experience in Echocardiography.
  • Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
  • New hires must pass the ARDMS or CCI credentialing exam within one year of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • One year of cardiovascular sonography experience preferred.
