Job Overview

Position Title: Staff Pharmacist

Objective: To enhance the customer experience by providing assistance with pharmaceutical and wellness needs in a safe and courteous manner.

Reporting Line: This role reports directly to the Pharmacist in Charge.

Employment Status: This is an exempt position.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current Pharmacist License in good standing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D).
  • A valid driver's license is required for deliveries.
  • Completion of ongoing training as outlined in the Cosentino Learning Plan.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Retail Pharmacy Software Systems.

Core Responsibilities:

  • In the absence of the Pharmacist in Charge, oversee departmental activities ensuring operational effectiveness while fostering a motivating and respectful environment.
  • Prepare and dispense prescribed medications and pharmaceuticals for patient care.
  • Verify prescriptions issued by authorized prescribers for accuracy and determine necessary formulas and ingredients.
  • Compound medications using standard formulas and processes, including weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • Direct pharmacy staff engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals in the absence of the Pharmacist in Charge.
  • Provide customers with information regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of medications.
  • Maintain established procedures for quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and proper disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Input data such as patient names, prescribed medications, and costs to maintain pharmacy records and inventory.
  • Conduct assays on medications to determine identity, purity, and strength.
  • Instruct interns and other medical personnel on pharmacy-related matters.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards set by management.
  • Ensure compliance with health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
  • Address customer complaints professionally and escalate issues to management when necessary.
  • Implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
  • Operate necessary equipment safely and competently.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and interpersonal skills for effective customer and peer interactions.
  • Demonstrate basic math and reading skills essential for the role.
  • Exhibit essential written communication skills required for the position.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain open communication with the Pharmacist in Charge regarding departmental issues and concerns.
  • Support the organization by completing additional tasks as assigned by management and assisting other departments as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to reach overhead, twist at the waist, and lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods on hard surfaces.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 15 lbs.
  • Bending and squatting as required.
  • Climbing a ladder, possibly up to 5 ft.
