Under the direction of the Director of Aquatic Programs, the Swim Instructor maintains a safe and engaging swimming environment in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas. They will teach individuals of all ages the fundamentals of swimming and water safety, promoting a positive atmosphere that fosters swimmer safety and engagement in accordance with 92nd Street Y policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure the safety of every individual at 92nd Street Y, both in and around the pool and the rest of the facility.
- Be prepared to teach, wearing a bathing suit with a blue instructor shirt, and be ready to get in the water for all lessons.
- Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with 92nd Street Y policies and procedures.
- Enforce regulations pertaining to showers, food and drink, and conduct.
- Responsible for following proper sub procedures and finding adequate coverage for shifts staff cannot work.
- Maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
- Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving for their shift, and during all lessons.
- Attend all staff meetings and training as required.
- Responsible for keeping the Aquatics leadership team up to date with any changes relating to their contact information.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Certifications: Red Cross WSI or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate WSI skills in accordance with and Red Cross standards prior to employment.
- No educational requirements.
Per Diem Compensation Range: $25 - $40/hour. The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held.
