About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our Public Works Department, Building Maintenance division. As a Custodian, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our County facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide general custodial maintenance in assigned County facilities, including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning surfaces.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of work performed, including inventory management and supply ordering.
  • Perform all work in compliance with County policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for staff and visitors.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from County staff and the public, providing excellent customer service and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the locking and unlocking of doors, and set or disarm security systems as needed.
  • Ensure walkways and parking areas are swept and free of debris.
  • Maintain cleanliness and accurate supplies in restrooms, including restocking toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
  • Collect and distribute inter-office mail and deliver outgoing mail to external mailboxes.
  • Remove and replace liners in trash receptacles as needed.
  • Dust and clean surfaces, including doors, walls, showers, refrigerators, microwaves, and other appliances, as well as telephones.
  • Move furniture as required for cleaning and preparing for events and meetings.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of custodial, maintenance, or related experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • May be required to obtain certifications in CJIS, Blood Borne Pathogens, and PREA, depending on location and provided by York County.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, and fumes and/or noxious odors.
