Job Title: Caregiver - Direct Support Professional

Caregiver, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead their unique lives with dignity, independence, and inclusion.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and empathetic individual to provide direct support to our consumers in their daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and possess a strong commitment to creating a world-class experience for our individuals.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate consumers in daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access.
  • Provide direct support to and assist consumers in training activities as specified in ISPs and activity schedules.
  • Aid in mobility as needed for those using wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
  • Assist in bedroom maintenance and teach housekeeping skills and care of clothing.
  • Assist with meal service, teach dining skills, and promote social skills and personal dignity during meals.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to company policy.
  • Be assigned as a Primary Person (P2) for one or more consumers and ensure their wellbeing at all times.
  • Attend and successfully complete in-service training sessions as scheduled.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to fellow Direct Support Professionals.
  • Complete data collection, observation notes, and daily reports as directed by agency policy and procedure.
  • Assist consumers in transportation as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Individual Support Team and give input toward the consumer's ISP.
  • Monitor consumers' activities to ensure that safety and health care practices are observed and Universal Precaution Practices are followed.
  • Participate in and may be responsible for the daily operation of the home in one or more of the following areas: grocery shopping, overseeing consumers' money, monitoring of the physical plant and van maintenance, or monitoring of the house medications.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned to fulfill the agency philosophy and the goals and objectives of the program site.
Qualifications:
  • A high school education or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Some previous experience in supporting/assisting those with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks as required by federal and/or state laws and any other post-offer, pre-employment screenings as mandated by a governing agency or the company.
