MRI Technologist

As an MRI Technologist at FlexStaff Careers, you will be responsible for operating Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment to produce high-quality images for diagnostic purposes. Your duties will include preparing patients for exams, ensuring that all necessary information is obtained for the physician to make a diagnosis, and assisting in the management of patient flow. You will also be responsible for presenting images mounted for physician diagnosis and performing MRI procedures, including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, and extremities. Additionally, you will be required to place patients on the exam table and position them within the gantry, key in patient history data and other pertinent information, and operate the equipment to ensure the required images are obtained as ordered by the Radiologist.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examination
- Explain procedures in layman terms to relieve patient anxiety
- Set up equipment to administer procedures in a timely fashion
- Ensure patients are screened according to protocol and consent for procedures has been obtained, when necessary
- Perform MRI procedures, including abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, and extremities
- Place patients on the exam table and position them within the gantry
- Key in patient history data and other pertinent information
- Operate equipment to ensure required images are obtained as ordered by the Radiologist
- Contact Radiologist to review and ascertain whether additional scanning is required
- Operate equipment for the transfer of computed images to film, the archival of disc memory to tape, and proper use of PACS System
- Assist Radiologist with administration of I.V contrast
- Monitor patient condition and directly observe patient during examination
- Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition and/or motor abnormality complaints by the patient
- Perform minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjust equipment, when necessary
- Troubleshoot mechanical problems of equipment by performing minor repairs, as necessary
- Recognize and report major problems to management to ensure prompt resolution
- Assist in patient flow, including scheduling exams, assuring patients are sent for in advance of scheduled exam, assuring premedication has been administered on the unit, and completing exams
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
- New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required for positions filled after September 5, 2010
- ARRT registration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into positions filled after September 5, 2010
- Minimum of six (6) months experience as a Radiology Technologist, required
- Previous MRI experience, preferred
