Job Summary

Loyola Marymount University is seeking an Academic Advisor to join our School of Education team. As an Academic Advisor, you will provide academic advising and support for assigned programs and candidates, working closely with program leadership and the Credential Office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising for candidates on routine and complex issues, maintaining ongoing communication about SOE and university policies, processes, and requirements.
  • Serve as a certified officer for verification of official documentation required for credential and degree completion, collecting, reviewing, and uploading official candidate file documentation.
  • Collaborate with the SOE Credential office to support candidates' credentialing needs, evaluating coursework for credential requirements and disseminating information on the Character and Identification Clearance process.
  • Provide updates and feedback to program leadership on course sequence, schedule offerings, and candidate issues and trends, working towards program development and success.
  • Stay current on California Commission for Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and program-specific certification policies, legislation, trends, and credential regulations, maintaining a working knowledge of educational practices in California PK-12 school systems.
  • Effectively utilize required LMU web-based systems to maintain meaningful electronic data and records related to program, degree, and credential program completers and/or credential holders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required, typically a Master's degree in Education, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two to three years of experience in progressively responsible capacities, preferably in academic environments evaluating academic qualifications of applicants.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multiple and highly diverse populations and constituencies, with highly developed organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize conflicting priorities.
  • Exemplary communication skills, with the ability to prepare comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating data and technical information.
  • Demonstrated computer competency and knowledge of MS Office applications, with the ability to learn and adapt to new and evolving computer systems.
