Job Title: Transportation Operator I

Join the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Transportation Operator I and contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of our state's transportation infrastructure.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion. As a Transportation Operator I, you will be responsible for flagging traffic, assisting in setting up work zones, performing manual labor on roadway maintenance work crews, and driving pick-ups and one-ton trucks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Flag traffic and assist in setting up work zones
  • Perform manual labor on roadway maintenance work crews
  • Drive pick-ups and one-ton trucks
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment
Requirements:
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor
  • Ability to remain constantly aware and observant of surroundings to maintain safe work zones for workers and the traveling public
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in roadway maintenance and flagging operations
  • Experience in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Maintenance, Construction, or related field

Please note that this is a wage position and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in the twelve-month period beginning May 1, through April 30. No state benefits are provided.
