Position Overview:


Under both direct and indirect supervision, the Radiologic Technologist I is responsible for delivering comprehensive radiology and fluoroscopic imaging services across various departments including radiology, emergency care, surgical units, and bedside services.


Key Responsibilities:


Conducts radiologic examinations in accordance with established departmental protocols within the diagnostic imaging sector, as well as in operating rooms, emergency departments, and patient rooms throughout the facility. This includes positioning patients appropriately, utilizing immobilization devices as necessary, and selecting technical parameters to achieve optimal imaging results tailored to each patient.

Reviews medical orders and correlates patients' clinical histories with the examinations being performed; assesses previous imaging studies when follow-up or progressive evaluations are indicated. Collaborates with attending Radiologists and Registered Nurses as required.

Adheres to all National Patient Safety Goals. Ensures proper identification of patients using established criteria prior to conducting the ordered studies. Maintains accuracy in information and data entry while upholding patient privacy and confidentiality. Documents necessary information in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and assists in screening patients for any contraindications.


Prepares sterile environments and contrast agents; manages floor stock medications; ensures the sterility of surgical packs, trays, and disposables utilized in assigned areas. Maintains adequate supplies throughout procedures.

Assists Radiologists during fluoroscopic procedures; demonstrates proficiency in operating and understanding the functionalities of general radiology, fluoroscopy, and portable imaging systems. Reviews and processes images as needed; prepares images for Radiologist interpretation and transmits them to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system.

Maintains a thorough understanding of all departmental equipment and devices. Reports any equipment malfunctions promptly; communicates accidents and/or unusual incidents, as well as unsafe conditions, to the appropriate administrative personnel.

Takes responsibility for patient needs during procedures, ensuring service-oriented communication by explaining procedures and addressing any questions. Promotes a compassionate and individualized patient care environment at all times. Assists with patient transport at the conclusion of procedures.


Provides safety instructions to patients, family members, and hospital staff as necessary; ensures adherence to safety protocols. Implements appropriate measures (ALARA Principles) to minimize radiation exposure for patients and self. Records fluoroscopy time utilized during procedures.

Participates as a member of the resuscitation team during Code Blue and/or Rapid Response Team situations.

Maintains all necessary materials and linen supplies on a daily basis; ensures general order and cleanliness of the assigned room.

Shares on-call responsibilities for General Radiology service areas.

Engages in ongoing continuing education to enhance professional development.

Attends departmental meetings and/or in-service presentations as required, and reviews meeting minutes when unable to attend.

Education:
Associate's degree in radiologic technology from an accredited institution; or two (2) years of directly related experience.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Radiographer License (Hawaii) required upon hire.
Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
Radiologic Technologist Certification required upon hire from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
