GENERAL JOB FUNCTION

The Calibration Technician plays a crucial role in the upkeep, assessment, and calibration of a diverse range of instruments and apparatus. This position ensures that all measuring devices, meters, and testing instruments are calibrated accurately to deliver precise readings. Adherence to the Policy and Quality Manual (QM), the Calibration System Description (CSD) of Micro Precision, and internal operational guidelines is essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable for the calibration of various testing instruments across multiple skill areas, including:
  • Electrical Equipment
  • Dimensional Equipment
  • Industrial / Mechanical Equipment
  • Temperature Equipment
  • RF/Optical Equipment

Calibration Process

  • Conducts preliminary evaluations and inspections of all customer equipment, including visual assessments, cleaning, functional checks, and self-testing.
  • Ensures that maintenance, minor repairs, and calibration of equipment are executed and finalized according to the established schedule, aligning with customer specifications and requirements.
  • Communicates the status and necessary calibration updates to relevant personnel promptly; collaborates regularly with fellow technicians.
  • Analyzes data, computes uncertainties, uploads data, and generates reports.
  • Ensures compliance with quality standards based on existing and approved quality procedures.
  • Verifies that environmental conditions are suitable for the tasks performed both in-house and at customer locations.
  • Confirms that the calibration procedures utilized are the most current and appropriate for the instruments being tested.
  • Safely transports instruments (both customer and company-owned), including reference standards and materials, ensuring no adverse effects on instrument accuracy.
  • Notifies the Quality Assurance Manager, customers, Division Manager, and Sales Manager of any lost, damaged, or stolen instruments while under the company's care.
  • Ensures accurate and complete nomenclature and identification of instruments in the Calibration Management System (CMS) to match instrument identification.
  • Verifies that calibration certificates contain precise information and that all client-required details are documented in the report.
  • Confirms the accuracy and reproducibility of reported results, calibration procedures, approved functions, reference standards used, and traceable patterns.

Other Responsibilities

  • Performs standard maintenance and checks of company standards as assigned by the Lab Manager.
  • May work in-house, locally, or travel regionally to conduct calibration tasks as directed by the Lab Manager.
  • Continues training in all aspects of Micro Precision Calibration Services and shares acquired knowledge and best practices with team members.
  • Collaborates with the department to establish general goals and develops, supports, and implements plans to achieve identified targets; recommends improvements to enhance current operations and related processes.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and quality standards while performing tasks, complying with company directives and policies; maintains proper communication practices and confidentiality of information within and outside the team.

Requirements

The qualifications and experience necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

Education:

  • Technical or related educational background, preferably in Calibration, Instrumentation, Electronics, or equivalent fields.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in electronic technology or mechanical/dimensional technology.
  • Experience with basic instrumentation and manual tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exhibits strong verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Knowledgeable in calibration procedures, uncertainty computations, and computer applications.
  • Possesses a keen eye for quality and detail, along with basic problem-solving skills.
  • Familiar with techniques and tools associated with ISO/IEC 17025.
  • A team player, trustworthy, service-oriented, and capable of managing priorities.
