Position Details

Our team, Core Experience, provides products that give Grainger a competitive advantage in user interface development. As owners of the frontend development platform, our team makes decisions that impact every digital product at Grainger.

Team members on Core Experience are exceptionally autonomous, exercising their own ingenuity and judgment to achieve important business outcomes.

Role

The Senior Engineer (SE3) is a dynamic and impactful role where you will lead projects and be responsible for important business outcomes. You will have substantial autonomy to solve complicated problems, so sound judgment is essential.

Success in this role is delivering regular work, providing quality code review, and being successful as a project leader.

A key challenge you will face in this role is navigating ambiguity. As a project leader, you are responsible for setting goals, rather than simply hitting them.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Product Engineering, and the primary location will be Chicago with the ability to work from home 3 days a week or work remotely if you live outside of the Chicago area.

Compensation

This position is exempt/salaried and will pay between $110,500 to $184,100. The position also comes with an annual bonus of 10% of base compensation. The range provided is a guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Other factors that are involved in offer decisions include, and are not limited to, a candidate's experience, qualifications, geography, and internal equity.

You Will

  • Lead team-level projects, taking sometimes ambiguous guidance, communicating with stakeholders, setting goals, and completing tasks both technical and non-technical to achieve intended outcomes
  • Actively engage in product strategy and prioritization discussions at the team level
  • Deliver well-defined features, fixes, and technical upgrades at an efficient pace and with a high level of quality
  • Actively engage in the code review process, both giving and receiving feedback from your teammates

You Have

  • 4+ years of experience building software as part of a team in a professional setting
  • Experience leading projects at the team level
  • Experience with React
  • Experience with GitHub
