Summary
Under direct supervision, this position is accountable for the management of laundry services, including the exchange and distribution of uniforms, bedding, and other linens within a correctional facility. Responsibilities include ensuring a sufficient supply of uniforms and linens, overseeing inmate workers, documenting incidents, particularly those involving damage to County property, and performing related tasks as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates daily exchange of clothing and bedding for detainees in their designated areas.
- Collects soiled uniforms, bedding, and linens issued to detainees.
- Maintains accurate records of laundry exchanges.
- Supervises inmate teams responsible for stocking laundry carts.
- Oversees inmate teams in the laundering of soiled uniforms and linens.
- Ensures cleanliness and organization of the laundry facility.
- Performs additional duties as required.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- Familiarity with basic laundry processes.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions; capable of maintaining records and documentation; skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, County staff, and detainees.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation conducted by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
- Willingness to work beyond 40 hours during the workweek, if necessary.
- Work is performed in an industrial laundry setting within a correctional environment; exposure to damp conditions and limited exposure to laundry chemicals, odors, and fumes.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry weights ranging from 10-15 lbs. regularly and 25-60 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity are essential for operating industrial laundry equipment. The role involves handling, walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and twisting to fulfill essential functions.
