Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse III to join our team at San Antonio State Hospital. As a Registered Nurse III, you will be responsible for providing complex nursing care to patients in a 75-bed hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care, prepare and maintain records, and interpret health laws and regulations.
  • Organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and the delivery of health services.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Lead and direct nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve patient-centered care.
  • Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures.
  • Provide education and training to nursing staff and patients.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and maintain competency records.
Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Valid Texas driver's license or obtain it within 90 days of hire date.
  • Three years of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or healthcare facility.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Working Conditions:

This position requires working in a fast-paced hospital environment, with frequent exposure to human blood, body fluids, tissue, or wastes, biomedical waste, and biological agents. The employee must be able to lift approximately 150 pounds with or without assistance.

Benefits:

This position is eligible for the automatic 5% salary increase that will take effect on September 1, 2024, per the 88th Legislative session. Employees must comply with all DSHS policies, including immunizations, skin testing, and personal protective equipment.
