Position Overview

The Gastroenterologist role at the Department of Veteran Affairs offers a remarkable opportunity to deliver exceptional healthcare to Veterans. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and patient education for individuals with gastrointestinal disorders in outpatient and community settings. Telemedicine responsibilities may be included as necessary.
  • Conduct GI procedures safely, encompassing but not limited to EGD, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, biopsy, polypectomy, and various hemostatic techniques for bleeding management.
  • Oversee consults and maintain progress notes to ensure accurate medical records for Veterans. Collaborate with other medical services and participate in patient education.
  • Engage actively in the education and mentorship of medical students and residents through formal lectures and hands-on training, ensuring the proper completion of medical documentation by those under supervision.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation and coding of patient visits.
