Position Overview

The Gastroenterologist role at the Department of Veteran Affairs offers a remarkable opportunity to deliver high-quality healthcare to Veterans. This position is pivotal in providing comprehensive and compassionate care, while also ensuring a healthy work-life balance as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver thorough medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and patient education for various Gastroenterology conditions in outpatient and community settings. Telemedicine duties may be included as necessary.
  • Conduct GI procedures safely, such as EGD, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, biopsy, polypectomy, and manage hemostasis for both variceal and non-variceal bleeding, stricture dilation, pH studies, PEG insertion, and paracentesis with ultrasound guidance.
  • Maintain accurate consults and progress notes in the Veterans' health records, assisting in the management of patients admitted to the facility. Engage in medication reviews, patient education, and coordination with other medical services as required.
  • Participate actively in the education and training of Medical Students and Residents through formal lectures and bedside teaching, ensuring proper documentation and completion of medical records by those under supervision.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation and coding of patient visits.
