Program Advocate

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Program Advocate to join our team at South Middlesex Opportunity Council. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our clients.
Responsibilities- Monitor shelter surroundings and respond promptly to any issues that arise during each shift.
- Maintain a safe environment for clients and staff, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Review previous shift information from other staff members and relevant logs to stay informed.
- Accurately maintain logs and files for each shift, documenting any notable events or incidents.
- Report problems and rule infractions to the Program Director through a written log, and immediately notify the appropriate supervisor in case of emergencies.
- Attend regular staff meetings and participate in relevant trainings to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Treat each client with dignity and respect, maintaining confidentiality and establishing appropriate boundaries.
- Conduct regular rounds every 15 minutes to ensure the well-being of clients.
- Engage with clients by understanding and addressing their needs, whether within or outside the scope of work.
- Communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas, and maintain confidentiality of client, employee, and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.
- Ensure compliance with program/department, agency, and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies and procedures.
- Minimum 2 years' sobriety.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of low-income individuals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to respond in crisis situations.
- Knowledge of substance abuse and mental illness preferred.
- Basic computer skills to maintain trainings as assigned.
This position involves direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
