Cyber operations specialists play a crucial role in protecting the nation's digital infrastructure from cyber threats. As an information security expert, you will be responsible for conducting integrated and synchronized offensive cyberspace operations to target enemy and hostile adversary activities and capabilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide critical intelligence and network support to safeguard the cyber domain.
  • Collect, analyze, and report digital data to inform decision-making.
  • Maintain network defense tools such as routers and firewalls to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Evaluate network defense operations to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement.
  • Respond to incidents in cyberspace to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations.
  • Conduct surveillance and reconnaissance actions on specified systems and networks to gather intelligence.
  • Perform network terrain audits, penetration testing, basic digital forensics, and software threat analysis to stay ahead of emerging threats.
Requirements
  • Must meet DoD requirements for cybersecurity expertise.
  • Be between the ages of 17– 40.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Submit to background and medical screening.
  • Receive a passing score on the ASVAB.
Training and Certification

Cyber operations specialists undergo rigorous training to develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this field. The training program includes:

  • Basic Combat Training (10 weeks)
  • Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Phase One (25 weeks)
  • Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Phase Two (20 weeks)

The training results in industry-leading certifications, including CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and CISCO Certified Networking Associate (CCNA).

Compensation and Benefits

Total compensation includes housing, medical, food, special pay, and vacation time. Cyber operations specialists are eligible for Special Pay of up to $300 per month. Additionally, they may be eligible for cash bonuses of up to $40,000 for enlisting under certain Military Occupational Specialties.

Education Benefits

Cyber recruits have access to education benefits, including full tuition, merit-based scholarships, allowances for books and fees, plus an annual stipend for living expenses. They also have opportunities for Advanced Civil Schooling (ACS) and Training with Industry (TWI) apprenticeships.

Cyber operations specialists can leverage their skills to pursue careers in government agencies, global security companies, and other industries.
