POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cashier plays a crucial role in facilitating the checkout process for customers by efficiently managing transactions through the Point of Sale (POS) systems. This position involves a variety of customer service tasks, including warmly greeting and assisting customers in a timely and friendly manner while ensuring the careful handling of merchandise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive and productive shopping experience for all patrons.
  • Engages with customers in a welcoming and approachable manner.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of products and services.
  • Stays informed about current promotions and sales.
  • Organizes and replenishes merchandise displays in the immediate area when not actively processing transactions.
  • Provides an outstanding experience for every customer by assisting them in their purchasing decisions through: assessing and understanding customer needs, making tailored product suggestions, and promoting various programs such as membership options and in-store services.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum education requirement: High School diploma or equivalent experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Proficient in calculating discounts and providing accurate change to customers.
  • Capable of communicating effectively and professionally with customers and team members.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with management, colleagues, and customers.
  • Competent in operating computerized Point of Sale systems.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Not applicable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods during shifts.
  • Occasionally required to climb or descend ladders, stairs, ramps, etc.
  • Must consistently communicate with others to exchange information.
  • Frequently perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Occasionally work in varying temperature conditions.
  • May be required to work outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • Occasionally work in environments with elevated noise levels.
  • Engage in light physical work, including moving and lifting items up to 20 pounds regularly, and occasionally lifting items up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:

  • Executes tasks and responsibilities under general supervision, following established procedures while applying innovative solutions. Makes decisions from limited options to address challenges. Occasionally utilizes independent judgment to complete assignments and often recommends improvements to work processes and practices.
