DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) operates as a comprehensive laboratory network, serving the eight hospitals within the Detroit Medical Center. Established in 1993, DMCUL includes Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, rapid response hospital labs, a Centralized Stat Lab, and a Centralized Blood Bank Lab, alongside a robust outreach infrastructure that encompasses patient service centers and a dedicated courier system.

Role Summary

In this role, you will work under general supervision to conduct both quantitative and qualitative laboratory analyses on patient specimens, adhering to established laboratory protocols. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing test outcomes and preparing samples for further examination.
  • Calculating findings and maintaining accurate records.
  • Preparing and validating solutions, reagents, and media used in testing.

Additionally, you will process and analyze various laboratory specimens, review and report results, and perform maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment. You will also serve as a resource for fellow laboratory staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or completion of an accredited medical technology program, or equivalent military training.
  • Preferred experience of 6 months to 1 year in a medical laboratory setting, particularly in an acute care environment.
  • Must be registered or registry-eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire.

  • Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with healthcare professionals.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for operating laboratory equipment.
