Job Title: Behavioral Health Safety Officer

Salem Hospital, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Health Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our patient care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the ED Nurse Director or designee, you will provide support to the patient care team by providing constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury. You will also provide support services to direct care givers and patients through ensuring a clean and ready environment, stocking and environmental support, and duties directly related to patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury.
  • Support direct care givers and patients through ensuring a clean and ready environment, stocking, and environmental support.
  • Perform duties directly related to patients with direction from the RN.
  • Collaborate with the patient care team to ensure a safe and supportive environment for patients.
  • Participate in training and education programs to enhance skills and knowledge in patient safety and support.
Requirements:
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Successful completion of de-escalation and restraint training within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to physically restrain out of control individuals after training.
  • Intense attention to detail to ensure a safe environment.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay attention.
  • Ability to read and write English. Must see, hear, and speak well.
  • Effective communication and de-escalation skills with patients of diverse age, population, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills, which may be acquired through on-the-job training.
  • Experience in an acute care hospital setting, inpatient mental health unit, or related experience.
  • A minimum of a High School education or equivalent required.
