Maintenance Mechanic Lead Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic Lead to join our team at Washington State University. As a key member of our Facilities Services department, you will be responsible for leading lower-level mechanics in the inspection, testing, operation, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems of campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee the completion of preventative maintenance work orders and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair rotating equipment, including fans, motors, pumps, and hydraulics systems.
  • Install bearings and fabricate components as needed, requiring unique or unusual hoist arrangements for support or removal of equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure effective maintenance and repair of campus facilities.
Requirements:
  • High school graduation and four years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet departmental driving standards.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and be available in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform required work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four years of experience in a Journey Level Trade, with one year of experience in another Journey Level Trade.
  • Experience in building operations and maintenance, including planned and preventive maintenance and repair of air compressors, vacuum and condensate pumps, and fans.
  • Extensive experience using machine shop equipment, including drill presses, band saws, and welders.
