Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Stationary Engineer 2 to join our Facilities Operations Steam Plants team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing equipment and systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our steam plants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair high pressure boilers, electrical generators, water treatment equipment, condensate distribution equipment, pumps, air compressors, steam line operating components, and computer controlled operations of plant systems.
  • Monitor and interpret information displayed at computer workstations for the computerized control of all Plant equipment and systems.
  • Lead the work of other assigned plant employees during assigned shift.
  • Review safety policies and procedures to assure compliance with rules and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems.
  • Certificate of completion of an Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college and two years of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of stationary or marine high pressure boilers and heating systems.
  • One year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Boiler Operator, Third Class license within 6 months of hire date.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED training are required annually.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift or relief operations duty as necessary based on Plant operational needs.
  • Ability to respond to worksite on a 24-hour basis.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering education and/or degree.
  • Recent experience as a high pressure steam boiler operator in a steam plant utilizing a computer operated, distributed control system.
  • Recent experience operating 1MW or larger gas or diesel-fired electrical generators.

Additional Information:

This position has been designated by the department to require a background check because it requires access to children or vulnerable adults as defined by RCW 74.34, engages in law enforcement, requires security clearance, interacts with WSU students in a counseling or advising capacity, has access to personal identifying and/or financial information, unsupervised access to university buildings/property, or other business-related need.
