Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Finance Associate Director, this position serves as a key team member for the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Administration-Fiscal Affairs Transaction Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, approving, and advising on complex financial transactions, reconciling transactions, maintaining financial records, and providing administrative support to staff and customers in an assigned program area.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor financial transactions and fund balances, generating and reconciling complex reports and statements in accordance with established rules and regulations.
  • Review and approve complex transactions, assigning funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Reallocate expenses to appropriate funding strings.
  • Draft communications and reports, maintaining organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit.
  • Answer complex fiscal questions and provide information based on set materials and standards to various audiences.
  • Review transaction processing internal controls and recommend policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a unit liaison to leadership, providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates.
  • May train staff on financial processes and best practices.
Requirements:
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to write and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to manage many detailed projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software, such as Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of WISER, UW Purchasing, and other UW financial systems.
  • Financial experience related to one or more of the following: transactional financial support, reconciliations, maintaining financial records.
  • Education or training in Accounting, Finance, or other Business related courses.
Work Environment:

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
