Job Description:

The National Audubon Society is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Center Operations Manager to join our team at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the center, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for our visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the management of facilities, grounds, and habitats to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for visitors.
  • Supervise frontline staff and volunteers, providing guidance and support to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Manage facility rentals, including inquiries, contracts, and partnerships, to maximize revenue and promote the center's mission.
  • Develop and manage an annual budget, tracking revenues and expenditures to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Center Manager and national finance staff to manage facility budget and support monthly close requirements.
  • Work closely with the Director of Strategic Operations to ensure all People and Culture processes run smoothly, including onboarding new staff and transitions with departing staff.
  • Manage POS, Ticketure, alarm, and phone system information systems, equipment replacement, staff training, and other operational tasks.
  • Support the Senior Center Manager in coordinating logistics and support preparation for advisory board meetings.
  • Foster positive relationships with schools, businesses, and other community, cultural, or government institutions, serving as an ambassador throughout the community.
  • Participate in Audubon's commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) through staff training, hiring initiatives, and adhering to the organization's EDIB principles.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the conservation initiatives at PRAC and throughout coastal Mississippi.
  • Works closely with Senior Center Manager and Director of Strategic Operations with grant reporting calendar and assists with proposal submissions, reports, and funder correspondence as needed.
  • Provide programmatic support as requested, including event and program logistics, preparation, teaching, and follow-up.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Minimum of 5 years of project and facility management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum one year of experience managing and mentoring staff and/or volunteers and fostering a supportive and effective team environment.
  • Experience in a retail setting for minimum 1 year.
  • Working knowledge and experience of center or similar facility management.
  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance and equipment; experience with habitat restoration a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational ability, attention to detail, and a can-do attitude are essential.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to track and move tasks/projects to completion in a fast-paced environment, especially of multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as part of a small team.

  • Must be able to accompany/lead/supervise participants and contractors over varied terrain in often hot and humid weather among insects and animals.
  • Able to load/unload/haul equipment and program materials over short distances, with or without accommodation.
  • Bookkeeping, budgeting, and contract preparation experience.
  • Knowledge of conservation concerns and practices in Coastal Mississippi, and commitment to learning the environmental history of the Pascagoula River watershed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with donor management systems and specifically Salesforce a plus.
  • Experience working with donors and development processes a plus.
  • Must be available for occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work. Occasional out-of-state travel required.
  • Must have own vehicle and valid U.S. driver's license for operating an Audubon vehicle.
