Position Overview:


Under the supervision of the healthcare provider, this position is accountable for delivering patient care that ensures the safety and welfare of all individuals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively identifies urgent or emergent patient needs and initiates appropriate emergency protocols as necessary.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of various payer regulations and operates within those frameworks.
  • Adheres to clinic protocols for the organization and management of electronic medical records, including test results and documentation.
  • Facilitates interdisciplinary communication, collaborating with other healthcare team members to assess patient needs and analyze data.
  • Evaluates patient and family comprehension of treatment plans and instructions.
  • Assists in various procedures, examinations, and the operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned (e.g., EKG, spirometry, tympanometry).
  • Maintains proper aseptic techniques during preparation, procedures, and medication administration.
  • Accurately records all patient interactions in the electronic medical record system.
  • Communicates results and relevant information to patients and healthcare team members.
  • Operates within the limitations of licensure or certification.
  • Performs fundamental medical assistant duties (vital signs, rooming patients, assisting with procedures, immunizations, medication injections, etc.) under the guidance of the provider.
  • Ensures the professional appearance of patient examination and procedure areas.
  • Manages supplies in designated areas.

Laboratory Responsibilities:

  • Conducts laboratory tests (including phlebotomy and various routine or automated tests) and maintains accurate records of tests performed and results obtained.
  • Reports findings and relevant information to patients and healthcare team members.
  • Complies with regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, COLA, OSHA) in laboratory operations.
  • Responsible for quality control and proficiency testing relevant to the tests conducted, ensuring standards are upheld throughout the testing process.
  • Addresses technical issues and ensures corrective actions are implemented when tests deviate from established performance criteria.
  • Coordinates various procedures, examinations, and diagnostic equipment.

Qualifications:

CMA Certification:

  • Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Experience in a clinic or physician office setting is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within three months of hire.
  • Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three months of hire.
