About the Role:

The Center for Spatial Analysis is seeking a skilled GIS Project Developer to support both centrally funded projects and grants/contracts that demand different solutions, skills, and deliverables. The successful candidate will be trained on each of the projects and will work to help the department provide coverage as requests and requirements change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain complex geographic datasets and GIS web applications, performing updates and edits as needed.
  • Collect and analyze data to make geospatial decisions, researching source documents to resolve missing or conflicting data.
  • Perform standard spatial analyses and write programs using development tools and programming languages.
  • Develop custom geospatial solutions and applications for projects, managing project workflow and timelines.
  • Provide training to end users on processes and applications as necessary.
  • Design databases and integrate GIS with other technologies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 24 months of technical experience in the development, use, and operation of GIS, including the entry, editing, and retrieval of geospatial data in GIS databases.
  • Advanced computer skills with a wide knowledge of business software, especially Microsoft Office and geospatial applications.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials and instructions, with effective decision-making skills and strong initiative to solve problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional-level expertise in geographic reasoning, geospatial technologies (GIS, GNSS), ESRI applications (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal, etc.), spatial programming applications (Python, R, Javascript, etc.), and database programs (PostgreSQL, Microsoft Access, and SQL).
