Position Overview

This role as a Wildlife Biologist is situated within the U.S. Department of the Interior, focusing on ecological preservation and management strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee project management tasks, including the formulation of work schedules, project scopes, budget estimates, and staffing requirements to secure funding and achieve conservation objectives.
  • Implement comprehensive inventory, monitoring, research, and restoration initiatives aimed at managing endangered species, rare wildlife, migratory birds, and other sensitive native species.
  • Conduct data collection and management, analyze complex datasets, and prepare scientific reports to support informed decision-making. Deliver presentations at various forums including parks and professional gatherings.
  • Coordinate wildlife management strategies with adjacent land management efforts to enhance ecosystem protection.
  • Represent the organization in regional task forces and cultivate partnerships with federal and state agencies, academic institutions, tribal entities, and non-profit organizations to further program goals.

Employment Conditions

Educational Requirements

  • A degree in biological science with coursework in wildlife management, zoology, and botany is essential.
  • Alternatively, a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in biological science may be considered.

Experience

Applicants should possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, which includes:

  • Contributing to wildlife management programs through data collection and analysis.
  • Assessing environmental conditions and recommending solutions for wildlife resource issues.
  • Participating in the development and revision of wildlife management plans based on field data.

Volunteer Experience

Credit will be given for both paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work that enhances relevant skills and competencies.
