Job Title: Welding Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Welding Engineer to join our team at Deanna Nesbit & Associates. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laser welding, supervising, and providing program support for defense programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership in the laser welding technology area, ensuring strong mechanical and technical expertise.
  • Manage capital requirements for laser/resistance welder equipment upgrades and replacements to ensure sustainability.
  • Conduct metallurgical evaluations, including cutting, sectioning, and evaluation.
  • Implement ISO Quality Systems and DCN (change management processes) to ensure compliance.
  • Design and develop a wide range of welding systems, including laser welding machines.
  • Supervise the work of other welders and engineering technicians, ensuring safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain and ensure all welding equipment is in working order.
  • Lead welding projects, perform troubleshooting, and find root causes.
  • Perform equipment changeovers and set-ups, and implement laser welding machine maintenance and standards.
  • Interact with customers on design, interface, and functional details.
  • Support the manufacturing and analysis of energetic materials that require welding.
  • Write technical reports as necessary to support projects.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and clients to ensure project success.
  • Support site compliance with DOD/DOE regulations.
  • Support project and operations teams, and existing products and product upgrades.
  • Participate in failure analysis activities and support bid and proposal activities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Welding Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in laser welding, preferably with Laser Welding systems and products.
  • Experience with Resistance and Laser Welding is preferred.
  • Ability to achieve DOE Clearance Classified.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry developments and welding techniques.
  • Aerospace and/or defense product experience is a bonus.
  • Ability to learn and apply energetics knowledge to various designs.
  • Experience generating 3D models and 2D drawings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of specifications and requirements, and ability to translate into product designs.
  • Ability to analyze engineering blueprints and designs for welding requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Understanding of product cost drivers.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite software.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, ProE, or AutoCAD software is preferred.
  • Experience with energetic materials is a bonus.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to Department of Energy regulations.
