Position Overview

The Nutrition Specialist I is tasked with overseeing all facets of nutritional care, collaborating with other healthcare professionals as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the Nutrition Care Process effectively, which includes conducting nutritional assessments, identifying nutritional diagnoses, implementing suitable nutrition interventions, and setting patient-specific goals while monitoring and evaluating outcomes.
  • Deliver nutrition education to patients and their families in both outpatient and inpatient environments, following evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines.
  • Provide consultation services to fellow healthcare providers and engage in interdisciplinary team activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in line with established policies and regulations.
  • When appropriate, refer patients to additional services, agencies, and community resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education
  • Master's Degree Required in a relevant field. Caregivers who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) license prior to the new educational requirements will be grandfathered in.
Experience
  • Required: Successful completion of an AND-approved internship or training program.
Credentials
  • Registered Dietitian required within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification as a Dietitian in Washington may be required for outpatient roles.
  • Licensure as a Dietitian in Oregon may be necessary for outpatient and ambulatory positions.
  • Registered Dietitian status is required for all Dietitians in Alaska.
  • Current Medicare provider status number may be required.
Skills
  • Proven ability to educate adults and children of varying competency levels.
  • Capability to design, implement, and assess instructional materials.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adept at collaborating with various departments and managing multiple projects independently.
  • Proficient in computer usage, including MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of age-specific principles of growth and development to cater to each patient's needs.
Working Conditions

Lifting Requirements:
  • Regular movement within the work area.
  • Frequent grasping and reaching.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying of items up to 10 lbs.
  • Infrequent squatting, kneeling, or bending.
Environmental Conditions:
  • Work performed in a medical/hospital setting or office environment.
Mental/Visual Requirements:
  • Normal vision and hearing capabilities (corrective devices permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and convey accurate information.
