Job Title: Taxonomist

We are seeking a highly skilled Taxonomist to join our team at Library Systems & Services. As a Taxonomist, you will play a critical role in managing our corporate taxonomies and related business processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain taxonomies and controlled vocabularies as part of our Enterprise Business Vocabulary (EBV).
  • Maintain a roster of taxonomy subject matter experts and facilitate their engagement with the EBV and Knowledge Management Unit.
  • Translate end-user requests into implementable taxonomy updates and liaise with IT staff to ensure proper implementation.
  • Recommend and document metrics to support the taxonomy program.
  • Apply knowledge of taxonomy modeling standards to projects and initiatives that utilize the EBV.
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Library/Information Science, Knowledge Management, Economics, or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Background in Library/Information Science, Knowledge Management, Economics, or other related fields.
  • Experience in developing sophisticated taxonomies to support various systems.
  • Ability to design, build, and maintain complex taxonomies for a SKOS-based system.
  • Ability to interpret business and organizational needs and translate them into technical and operational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with business semantic frameworks and query languages.
  • Familiarity with metadata management, autocategorization, machine-learning, ontologies, and/or knowledge graphs.
