Role Summary


MaineHealth Franklin Hospital, a critical access facility with 25 beds nestled in the picturesque western foothills of Maine, is in search of a seasoned clinical executive to take on the role of Chief Medical Officer for Physician and APP Services.


In collaboration with an administrative partner and the hospital's Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Medical Officer will spearhead the formulation of clinical, operational, and financial strategies for the MaineHealth Medical Group at Franklin Hospital. This role also entails active participation in regional quality, safety, and regulatory initiatives, alongside efforts in provider recruitment.

The dedicated care team at Franklin Hospital comprises 900 members, including 120 physicians and APPs, contributing to a broader network of over 2,500 providers within the MaineHealth Medical Group.


The Chief Medical Officer will oversee medical and associate medical directors across various specialties, such as internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, general surgery, urology, pain management, and orthopedics.

The Chief Medical Officer will report directly to the Regional Vice President of Physician and APP Services in the Mountain Region and will be an integral part of the Franklin Senior Leadership team.


Alongside administrative duties, the Chief Medical Officer will maintain a clinical role at Franklin Hospital, with a strong preference for a primary care specialty.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO or APP certification from an accredited institution is required.
  • Licensure in the state of practice, Federal DEA number, Medical Staff membership, and appropriate clinical privileges are mandatory, along with Board Certification in the respective specialty.
  • Physician with prior leadership experience and a distinguished clinical reputation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in healthcare finance and familiar with practice information technology (preferably Epic).
  • Possesses current market insights regarding the healthcare delivery system's status, trends, and outlook.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking capabilities while remaining grounded in operational and financial realities.
  • Strong operational and financial acumen to ensure effective resource allocation for quality care and service.
  • Possesses the political, interpersonal, and organizational skills necessary for effective operation in a matrix management environment.
  • Results-oriented and action-driven, with a sense of urgency that inspires others.
