Within Northrop Grumman's Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, the Mission Enabling Products (MEP) sector is a premier designer, manufacturer, and supplier of spacecraft components that empower and facilitate satellites across all classifications.

Northrop Grumman's Mission Enabling Products, Deployables team is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineering Leader to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals within our Quality Engineering division.

The Quality Assurance Engineering Leader will oversee the requirements related to the manufacturing of solar arrays and deployables. This role will entail daily management of approximately 10-15 Quality Engineers situated in our Oxnard and Goleta facilities, with the primary base in Oxnard, CA, and regular site visits to Goleta, CA.

Core Responsibilities:


Responsible for achieving or surpassing Safety, Quality, Employee, Delivery, and Cost expectations for both internal and external clients within the Quality function.

Lead and manage a team of Quality Engineers


Collaborate and coordinate with other functional managers, process center leaders, value stream leaders, and value stream owners to fulfill business and program objectives.

Accountable for the upkeep of the Quality Management System (QMS) and AS/ISO/NADCAP certifications across the Operating Unit


Act as Management Representative as required per AS9100 and coordinate third-party audits, ensuring resources are prepared and available for support.


Provide leadership as the chair for the Procurement Quality Board (PQB) and Corrective Action Board (CAB), facilitating the Material Review Board (MRB) process in conjunction with engineering.


Lead root cause and corrective action processes (RCCA) and analyses on failure investigations for significant issues, guiding personnel in the use of RCCA for less critical issues.


Responsible for determining and managing the preparation of technical quality documents, including quality plans, inspection plans, and end item data packages (EIDP) in accordance with customer specifications and statements of work.


Oversee the review and approval of quality requirements for manufacturing planning, purchase orders (POs), and engineering drawings/specifications to ensure compliance with customer expectations.

Support customer proposals by providing technical, budgetary, and scope information relevant to the proposal process.

Maintain the process for calibration controls of tools, equipment, and machinery.

Basic Qualifications:
5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree; 0 years of relevant experience with a PhD; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree

Experience in personnel management preferred

Strong knowledge and experience with Quality Management Systems (AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, and government standards) and Certifications

Lean/Six Sigma experience, including conducting or managing internal audits

Familiarity with mechanical and non-destructive inspection techniques

Understanding of engineering GD&T principles

A strong passion and relentless drive for achieving results in a dynamic aerospace engineering and manufacturing environment.

Excellent oral and written communication, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.


Must be willing and able to travel to the Goleta, CA site approximately 40% of the time / 2 days per week.


Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred candidates would also possess knowledge of deployable mechanism technology and advanced manufacturing processes

Experience with Supplier Quality and Performance Management

Experience in personnel management

Experience in planning and budgeting

Salary Range:
$104,600 - $156,800


The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
