Hiring Range:
$37.33-$48.53

Offer rates are based on experience. Offer rates at the higher end of the range are only for applicants with many years of experience.

Responsibilities:

Maintain laboratory dictionaries and coordinate changes with Acute, Ambulatory, and Billing Support. This includes changes to tests at reference laboratories and coordinating updates with healthcare portals such as HIXNY and MEDENT.

Represent the laboratory at meetings on information technology initiatives and update laboratory staff.

  • Perform initial testing for updates to the SMH electronic health record.
  • Monitor and resolve charge rejections and billing issues.
  • Assist with updating laboratory IMO Code Changes.

Monitor and resolve issues with reporting systems to ensure timely faxing of results.

  • Monitor and resolve issues associated with pending tests, reflex tests, and exception logs associated with reference laboratories. Proceduralize daily functions for Reference staff.
  • Serve as a resource to laboratory staff for department-specific projects or issues.
  • Assist with report writing in support of quality initiatives.
  • Maintain clinical competency in one department within the laboratory service.

Utilize safe, accurate, effective, and professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies.

  • Participate in training and education of others as requested.
  • Create and use work aid documents as needed.
  • Support the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for performance enhancement.
  • Successfully troubleshoot complex clinical application issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available clinical application enhancements and requirements to facilitate improvements.

Complexity of Work:
Within the scope of the job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Biology preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Information Technology is also acceptable.

Licensure:
Must be licensed in New York State as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Technician. Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow instructions in English.

Work Experience:
  • Experience with the MEDITECH family of electronic health records is required.
Experience with MEDITECH Expanse is preferred.

  • Ability to navigate multiple computer systems.
Computer literate and working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
