Operations Manager Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our site production operations. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating a safe, efficient, and productive work environment that meets our quality, delivery, and cost-effectiveness objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost meet specified targets.
  • Implement behavior-based safety initiatives and continuously improve safety performance.
  • Execute quality control plans for compliance to standards and drive variation reduction within the process.
  • Assess on-time delivery performance and develop actions to improve and sustain high levels of performance.
  • Manage cost by effective management of labor, overtime, and expenditures.
  • Determine staffing requirements weekly and re-deploy resources as needed.
  • Review and analyze production reports to determine root causes of variance from budget and develop corrective actions.
  • Apply Lean principles to improve productivity, decrease lead times, reduce waste, and attain customer quality requirements.
  • Recommend and initiate cost reduction programs centered around capital improvements.
  • Promote and participate in kaizen activities and sustain results.
  • Facilitate daily Gemba walks and ensure proper utilization of hour-by-hour, SQDC boards, and War Room tools.
  • Coordinate staffing levels with the Human Resource Manager.
  • Direct the efforts of plant supervision to ensure consistent application of human resource policies, procedures, and plant rules.
  • Coach and mentor team members to assure their ongoing development.
  • Stay abreast of new trends and developments in methods, techniques, equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.

Requirements:

  • A hands-on leader with high integrity, positive influence, and strong business acumen.
  • 10 years of staff-level leadership experience, with a minimum of 7 years in Operations and/or Lean Management.
  • Printing industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience in being a change agent in complex transformational activities.
  • Significant experience in implementation of Lean principles as they apply to manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to apply structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
