Job Title: Neighborhood Safety Specialist

Job Summary

The Neighborhood Safety Specialist will be responsible for patrolling downtown areas on foot, bike, or vehicle to deter and report unwanted behavior and activity. This role requires a visible, uniformed presence and collaboration with local law enforcement and community stakeholders to promote a safe and vibrant neighborhood environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serving as a Deterrent: Maintain a visible, uniformed presence in assigned neighborhoods to deter unwanted behavior and activity.
  • Observing and Reporting: While on patrol, observe and report any unwanted behaviors or criminal activity to local authorities via established communication methods.
  • Addressing Unwanted Activities: Firmly and courteously request compliance from individuals violating low-level quality of life crimes, such as aggressive panhandling, loitering, and disruptive behavior.
  • Hospitality and Customer Service: Provide friendly greetings and directions to pedestrians, and assist residents and visitors as needed.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Communicate with various agencies to report criminal activity, particularly quality of life crimes, and work collaboratively to resolve issues.
  • Establishing Relationships: Meet with neighborhood leadership, provide feedback, and participate in problem-solving to identify and address neighborhood quality-of-life issues.
  • Reporting: Develop and document incident reports, action plans, and daily accomplishments and tasks completed.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a positive, professional environment in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and Block by Block standards.
  • Attendance: Ensure timely and regular attendance to meet expected productivity standards.
Requirements
  • Physical Abilities: Must have the physical capacity to walk or ride a bike continuously during an eight-hour shift, with normal breaks.
  • Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a valid Ohio driver's license and successful registration of OPISGS security license.
  • Schedule: Operations will be seven days a week, with shift times from 1:30pm-10:00pm, five days a week, and some weekend availability required.
  • Experience: Verifiable prior case management experience, with 3-5 years preferred.
