About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Attorney to join our team at Americans for Immigrant Justice. As a Staff Attorney, you will play a critical role in providing legal representation to unaccompanied immigrant children detained in Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) facilities and living in South Florida community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Know Your Rights presentations and legal screenings for children detained in ORR facilities;
  • Represent clients in immigration proceedings before the Immigration Court, appellate proceedings before the Board of Immigration Appeals, proceedings before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and proceedings in state family and juvenile courts;
  • Conduct legal screenings of unaccompanied minors to determine eligibility for legal relief and representation by AI Justice;
  • Advise and counsel unaccompanied minors on their legal options and provide representation in immigration court proceedings;
  • Comply with program reporting requirements.
Requirements
  • Florida Bar membership required;
  • Experience in immigration law, including experience with Special Immigrant Juvenile, asylum, VAWA, T and/or U visa cases, is preferred;
  • Strong writing, research, and analytical skills, as well as excellent communication and group leadership skills;
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, with a high-volume caseload and multiple deadlines;
  • Enthusiasm for working with diverse cultural, educational, professional, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Fully bilingual, including reading and writing, in English and Spanish, is required;
  • Must have own transportation and be willing to submit to an extensive background check.
What We Offer
  • Salary range is $70,600 - $129,600, commensurate with experience;
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including excellent paid health, vision, and dental, and life insurance coverage;
  • 15 paid days of vacation leave, 13 paid holidays, 10 paid health days, and 1 personal day;
  • TriRail discount commuter benefit and $50/month cell phone stipend;
  • After one year of employment, staff are entitled to paid parental leave and up to 3% matching employer contribution to 403(b) retirement plan.
