Work Environment

Our Miami smelter and rod plant is strategically located, processing copper concentrate primarily sourced from our Arizona mines. This facility is a key supplier of sulphuric acid for our North American leaching operations. The surrounding area offers a blend of natural beauty and a rich mining heritage, providing employees and their families with opportunities to connect with nature and enjoy a family-friendly community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or collaborate with a team to execute all phases of design, redesign, systems failure analysis, and preventive measures within specified timeframes and budgets.
  • Oversee projects and act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on significant mine site engineering initiatives, which may involve developing new systems or modifying existing processes, including the authority to approve work from other engineering disciplines.
  • Support the maintenance department by spearheading a Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) program.
  • Serve as the Project Engineering Leader, responsible for creating and authoring engineering reports, including concept designs, feasibility studies, alternative analyses, failure analyses, safe work practices, procedural manuals, and final design documents.
  • Develop and assess AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding needs.
  • Evaluate and manage contracts, service provisions, and equipment, while engaging in strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Conduct planning, scheduling, and economic analysis.
  • May supervise front-line or technical personnel.
  • Utilize design software such as AutoCAD, SAP, Microsoft Project, and Pipe2010.
  • Assess and implement innovative methods and techniques for operational enhancement and benchmark against other operations for continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with five (5) years of relevant experience in engineering within a mining or industrial context, focusing on equipment modifications and retrofits, OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with three (3) years of relevant experience in engineering within a mining or industrial context, focusing on equipment modifications and retrofits.
  • Recent hands-on experience applying mechanical engineering principles and practices in a mining or industrial setting in at least two (2) of the following areas:
    • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), including vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, and infrared technology.
    • Oil analysis for systems management.
    • Leading engineering and construction activities for development projects.
    • Implementing and managing maintenance improvement plans based on data analysis.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Aptitude for researching and analyzing complex information and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to actively listen and adapt communication style based on the audience.
  • Ability to recognize and manage occupational hazards and safety protocols.
  • Skill in adhering to safety practices and identifying, controlling, and/or eliminating hazards.
  • Capacity to build trust and credibility with colleagues and establish common goals and expectations.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of maintenance experience in smelting, chemical manufacturing, mining, or processing industry environments.
  • Experience with large rotating equipment, including knowledge of bearings, seals, lubrication, and gearboxes.
  • Strong understanding of all RCM disciplines (Vibration Analysis, Machinery Lubrication, Thermography, Nondestructive Testing, and Ultrasound).
  • Experience in industrial project management.
  • Experience with project commissioning.
  • Experience in procurement and factory-accepted testing.
  • Experience supervising contractors.
  • Experience with detailed scope writing.
  • Experience with forecasting.
  • Strong proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $94,000 - $132,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not encompass bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
