Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Freeport-McMoRan Inc. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical systems and equipment for our mining operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of mechanical systems and equipment designs, including feasibility studies and concept designs.
  • Lead projects and serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on large/complex mine site engineering projects.
  • Provide support to the maintenance department by leading a Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) program.
  • Develop and evaluate Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) documents for capital funding requirements.
  • Evaluate and administer contracts, provisions of services and equipment, perform strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Perform planning, scheduling, and economic analysis.
  • May supervise front-line or technical employees.
  • Use design computer software such as AutoCAD, SAP, Microsoft Project, and Pipe2010.
  • Evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement and benchmark other operations for continuous improvement alternatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in engineering in a mine or industrial environment pertaining to equipment modifications and retro-fits, OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in engineering in a mine or industrial environment pertaining to equipment modifications and retro-fits.
  • Recent hands-on experience using the principles and practices of Mechanical Engineering at a mine or industrial site in two (2) of the following areas:
    • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) to include vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, and infrared technology.
    • Oil analysis for systems management.
    • Leading Engineering and Construction activities for development projects.
    • Implementing and managing maintenance improvement plans based on data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of maintenance experience in smelting, chemical manufacturing/mining, and/or processing industry environment.
  • Experience with large rotating equipment, including knowledge of bearings, seals, lubrication, and gearboxes.
  • Strong understanding of all RCM disciplines (Vibration Analysis, Machinery Lubrication, Thermography, Nondestructive Testing, and Ultrasound).
  • Experience in industrial project management.
  • Experience with project commissioning.
  • Experience in procurement as well as factory-accepted testing.
  • Experience in supervising contractors.
  • Experience with detailed scope writing.
  • Experience with forecasting.
  • Strong experience with PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
What We Offer

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $94,000-$132,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
